They say,

Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It
shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye,
binoculars or a telescope.
It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.

I tried it and I found it as a nice addition to my PC. It is available for Mac., Win. as well as for Linux. As a user we have to just set the coordinates, and it show the sky view, showing in 3D. Its 3D is what we can call 'A' class. Since its a part of open source community we can certainly look forward to continous development. It certainly boasts of few rich features, which previous 2D similar softwares didnt provided.
Best thing which I can suggest you after downloading this software is opening a local planetarium sort of thing. Which you can certainly do woth the help of a projector and a computer.

My suggestion >>> Go get it.

NovFriday,

To be honest I havent seen PS3 and neither PSP in real. There are few reasons for that, firstly I am not a good gamer, and secondly there is no gaming device policy in place from sony. For those who are planning to buy any of the two device and want an Indian warranty version, my suggestion would be buy it, or go for Xbox 360.
Before I continue, let us see the MRP of PSP ans PS2 in india

  • PSP -- Rs.15,480
  • PS2 -- Rs.11,980

But this world is very fast, we in India are being fed by news of PS3 and Nintendo Wii launches worldwide. PS3 recently wnet for midnight launch in US, at a minimum price tag of 600$ approx. That makes it nearly Rs.27,000 if your uncle live in US. But I dont think this is a right time to bother your uncle for PS3. Why??
You must be thinking hard, for it, why would I say that this is not right time to bring in PS3. I would say it because you wont find a set game library in India for PS3, secondly, inspite of its goliath type power, it would be a like something from future in your room. Because soon many of you would find that your TV's does not do justice to its power.
Leaving all this aside, let us understand this PS3 game. To put it frankly, Sony are selling PS3 in loss, their console price is much more than 600$. Then there is another thing, which is called as Blue Ray, its high def. DVD format competing against HD-DVD format supported by Rival Toshiba and Microsoft. And any good Blue Ray player will in present conditions would cost more than 600$. They will earn profit in future, but havent they put too much in laps of future by making a highly advanced technology in the black box and named it PS3. They will earn profit when games start selling which will provide them with royalty and same will happen with Blue Ray, but this will happen only and only if they sell their consoles well.
And now what about India? As an outdoor person I dont admire computer or console games, but as a tech freak I love there technology. But I think sony will at least take an year or so to launch PS3 in India. BY the mean time I will suggest you to go for Xbox 360, because its in more enjoyable condition, with few good games in kitty and good internet support and community and it can integrate well with PC though not seamlessly.

yaari.JPG

Its an India centric social network, that is trying to woo users by offering them free Ipod(shuffle-old), for them reaching over 100 friends or become heavily popular. A nice go, but I think is not that effective.

Its a invite only social network startup from two NRI, and looks pretty cool, in flickr pink and parrot green. Its single theme is highly ajaxed up, and it does every thing, it have an integrated chat client, an integrated mailbox and every thing else which you can find on a social network. But... yes a big *BUT* there is no option for customization of theme, which makes it monotonous, higly monotonous. It is fundamentally inspired from MySpace and then named it to make india centric, but added nothing to make it Indian. One more thing which I didnt liked is that I can only devide my friends in groups of there liking, i.e., on the basis of city and educational institutions/jobs, thats unfair, and by know I havent found a way to remove field boxes from main page. If I dont have any media content even then the media box will keep on showing on my main page.

How they are running this network is also unknown, because I havent heard that there is some big VC funding behind them nor there is any advertisement on its pages, to sum it up, they are not having any revenue generation options, which means that they can some day vanish from netsphere and I can loose my contacts.( Lets hope otherwise).

There are few things which I loved about yaari, one is that they are proving mobility feature, which makes it quite indian centric, then it is there color code, and finally there name.

They have to do something out of the box, to penetrate deep in Indian mass.

ALIPR:- Automatic Linguistic Indexing of Picture- real time.
Pretty interesting indeed. I have been saying it for quite some time, that common image search which google or for that matter any other search engine does is not up to the mark. Riya broke the mould and they once again did it with Like. But what they did was something with great fanfare , here alipr is a site which is being developed without any fanfare, and thus might not be attracting any big crowd. ALIPR is more of a scientific taste and does not have any tadka of commerciality.
It is being developed by Jia Li and James Z. Wang.
As its title indicates they are trying to classify an image using words. Their system have a vocabulary of 332 English words, which though is not big in figures but is highly effective.

ALIPR version 1.0 is designed for color photographic images. ALIPR 1.0 is not designed for black&white photos, manipulated photos, objectionable images, cartoons, sketches, framed photos, etc. ALIPR's prelude was our ALIP system, published in 2002.

They are doing some great job in image annotation. For more of there work go here.
Future of image search is in meta data or computer analysis.
They are basiclay on research project so we might just not see them on web 2.0 map, but yes they are doing there bit for web 2.0 by their own way.

NovMonday,

Yesterday I was pondering, about the services of google without which I will feel uneasy, Saying that life would be impossible would certainly be an over statement.
So here I am with my list of the service offered by google which I use almost daily...

Orkut
Reader
Notebook
Gmail
Homepage
Search

Blogger

Hmm thats it.
Though all its services are nice, but few of it are not of top class. By that i mean... Orkut and Notebook.
Though lately they are putting some attention on Orkut, but notebook which is now, I think is like lesser child to google. I even believe that they should now shut notebook as an individual product. They should fuse it with reader, and should thus provide more capability to Reader as well as Notebook.
There is one more option... hmm... I think many of you would have guessed it at first place.
Integration with docs. Yes the new docs and spreadsheet by Google. Docs is a good word editor, and notebook can be good collector, so can be Reader. They provide note taking abilities in notebook, which is just a small time editor, where as docs is a good web based desktop publisher.
So now here is one better suggestion. Integrate Notebook to Reader at first place and then integrate Reader which now have notebook to Docs.
Just like Adobe, which now provides in its software, the feature called Adobe Bridge, google should provide a 'G-Rope' ( Nice name...), which will be roping every facility (not necessarily) with each other, because cut-copy-paste is so out dated.
I think Google should put my suggestion in their notebook

NovMonday,

I found this on Downloadsquad ( our inspiration ), written by Chris Gilmer. The article says that, Google's CEO Eric Schimidt is dreaming about provoding users free mobile phones. Schimidt said that it will be free for only those who wish to see targeted ads. Interesting idea. But I wont agree that he is dreaming, because they an certainly do it. Because if you are offline then you are on mobile. And targeted ads, on mobile, will be filling that that time gap. But for that to happen successfully google needs to bring more and more localised advertisements. By that I mean, that, I who is living in Bhopal wont be interested in any ad of US and for that matter not even that of some nearby city. But even today I get advertisements via SMS, and they are quite bugging, so am I interested, no, no way. But yes I would give it a try for a month, so if they can turn it other way, that, they let me buy mobile at reduced cost and then let me see weather I am comfortable with it or not, and then let me shrug it off. I would go for it...
But what about you? Free mobile...Many ads.

NovWednesday,

So all were right. Google has now finally integrated G-Talk with Orkut. Lets first see how is integration now.
In your friends section, below your friends image you will see dots,(I saw only one green, today), same dots which are seen on G-Talk. Green for online and and red with minus sign for off-line. Pretty nice. But I could only see it after I saw green button, it would have been much better, if they would have send everybody a message, as a good news. One can add all his friends to his G-Talk account, thats pretty cool. On Orkut there is no more integration to be seen, but better integration is seen on G-Talk. There one will find specific orkut button, and links to send scrap. Every thing is fine, but why must I open another browser window for sending a scrap, It would have been mighty better if there would have been direct facility for scrapping.
This was about what they did... But if it would have been on me... I would have certainly did it differently. I would have integrated it much deeper, yes on orkut page itself. Very much like online chat clients(Meebo etc.). Hello Google.. the world at least, Web 2.0 is more about web and desktop integration, rather than doing things individually.
But still, I am happy, now it wont be needed to ask friends for Y! chat by scrapping them.
I am also happy for G-Talk, its best IM client out there in web world, no frills attached and highly productive.

You all can certainly tell me, that what else integration you would like to see, in orkut or any other web service for that matter.

NovSunday,

I was 10 when I got my first good PC, good because before it, what I had was called 486. New PC was Celeron, far slower than present standards, but that was the beginning of my 'computer freak' nature. But the point here is not about my love of computer but the result of this nature. I got my PC filled with 3-D Max, and I knew nothing about it, nothing and neither was in high interest zone. I soon realized and removed it from my PC(I am bad in drawing, worst in my family).
Now is the time to go 3-D, you can if your time permits can work on few freely available 3-D softwares.
Blender
DAZ Studio

Blender
First on is Blender(My personal favorite). Its under GNU general public license and is based on Python. Now what open source allows is well known is web community, it provides some regular updates, so we can say that it keeps on changing. Its really powerful. It have a very long list of features. More than that its library is also increasing and one thing which matters to me most is that IT IS NOT BIG. Yes it can not perform in the same way in which MAYA perform, but who needs Maya or for that matter 3ds max for regular office 3-D work.
Maya is like best best brush to paint, but I dont need best brush to paint my 1st grade drawing sheet. And let me tell you Blender is no 1st grade drawing brush.

DAZ Studio
This came to light much recently when it was covered on Download Squad by Ryan Carter.
Telling you all frankly I am not eligible to suggest any thing about DAZ Studio, as I haven't downloaded it yet.

This is one art sample which is using DAZ Studio and is from their site.
This is what they have got to say

DAZ|Studio is a free software application that allows you to easily create beautiful digital art. You can use this software to load in people, animals, vehicles, buildings, props, and accessories to create digital scenes.

But I dont think that it is open source as it not mentioned any where on their site.
And yes its a tell-ware.
Thinking whats a tell-ware?
They simply want you to tell your friends about it, at least 2.
Why?

DAZ Productions has a made a committment to keep the DAZ|Studio core application free to the public for as long as possible. In order for this to be possible, DAZ relies on the revenues generated by the purchase of content available in the DAZ online store. The more people that purchase regularly from DAZ, the more development that can be subsidized and the longer the DAZ|Studio core will remain free.

If you want to know that what am I going to do, then let me tell you that I have already told 2 person and you are third. So I have already done my good.

My suggestion is that you should download both, try them, test them as per as your needs, and then uninstall them as I did when I first got 3ds max on my celeron.
