DecSaturday,

I came across this new service as one of my friend pointed it to me. Nowthen is one nice simple service, doing nothing more than what it is stating, with a very clean, calming interface, with a smooth scrolling image viewer. Its not blogging in pure sense but it is very much same. For messaging a MMS it is open only for US and UK(as usual). But people from other countries can send their text as well as multimedia messages as an email, which is a nice option. This USP of this service is the instantaneous of send the messages, its not like flickr or any other similar service, but is targetted for some casual mobile photography, so that you can share your pics with your friends on go, and 'on go' is the main part of USP.

They will be providing mobile alerts and from wha ever I read it seemed that they are not charging any thing for that. Then as usual they are providing links to feed the MySpace and networks.

I think they are just running it for fun as there is no obvious revenue generating system, and I think it will remain so. Soon they might start a video blogging on similar lines. And it will be good option.

The only thing I wish is that they shoud keep it simple and thats it, they should not try to match Flickr or others and should concentrate on mobile market.

I dont know if there are any other player like them, but I think there would be some similar players, doing round about similar thing. So this topic squares on a single point, the service which would be faster to penetrate in youngsters life, and simpler the service faster it would grow.

Mr Phil Harrison, a SONY executive says that, developers are not using even half of PS3 muscles. This certainly means that he want us to believe that PS3is very powerful and will give us out of world gaming experience. But if that is so then I wont buy it, why should I pay some 600$, and get something which is not up to the mark, whatever the reasons may be. Why should I spend high sum on a piece of technology which is way advance from its time, I would prefer buying technology which is very much of present time, so that I can enjoy it to fullest. Gaming industry is growing leaps and bounds and will continuously do so, weather it be console based or be computer based. I have always said that in this war only that product will win who provides better convergence. And here I think that Microsoft is having a clear advantage. But they never get things right in first stroke, so this gives other some catching up time.
Lets come back to the Sony PS3 power...
The so called paranormal potential of the PS3's architecture is in direct comparison with Xbox 360 as both are powered by 3.2 GHz cores, nearly same GPU, with matching clock speeds, and have 512MB RAM. The 360 adds two additional cores running simultaneously, whereas the PS3's "Cell" architecture eschews the extra cores in favor of seven smaller "Synergistic Processing Units" (SPUs) that act as vector processors with a separate instruction set and a tiny amount of on-board memory. There is one fact that software industry is behind in one respect to hardware industry that is designing softwares for much faster hardware speeds. So are games lagging behind in gaming industry, none of XBox 360 game has done justice to machine's power till yet, and it will remain very much same with PS3.
Gaming industry have lots of scope, as it is still not global in true sense, and this can be doe only through with slightly cheaper consoles. If sony would have made PS2.1, with some hard memory and making it more connecting then I think they would have certainly made some fast profits. Quantum jumps in gaming always going to create title trouble, and this is very much so with PS3, if they would have made an intermediate product with more connecting and Wifi capabilites then they would have created a good and powerful base in gamers species for the PS3. Yes I agree that would have been a kind of regessive step if looke from present scenario, but if they would have done it say some 2-3 years back then it might have been a master stroke. But presently we are with a raging question, Which console to buy? Whats your say.

DecFriday,

Orkut which is the only social network in Alexa rankings of top ten barring MySpace and YouTube, is down and as Techcrunch is reporting it is down for 15 hours...and counting. I woke up early morning and put on my PC to see orkut down, and I am still seeing Orkut down. There can be few theories, they are going for some major major upgrade which only few people wanted to do, none was agreeing them and then to get their thing accepted they shut the whole system down and now they are doing it all from beginning. Second they are down due to some really big virus, probably of the size of human. Thirdly the recent earthquake near Taiwan can be the possible culprit...OK there can be many more and we really dont know what the possible reason is.

But to see that Orkut had got some huge publicity in India and Brazil though not for some good reasons, and thus increasing their traffic in folds is really enthralling. Why enthralling, just because its Google venture and Google, I think is very weak in community run ventures.

By the way due to Orkut viral, I was not able to contact many of my friends. So if by any chance any one of you are here, then have a Hi from me in this my small space.
______________________________________________________
Update...

After hours of waiting I checked it once again and it is on...bye the way it is 1:30 am in India, and I was digging in some physics books. Now on a serious note I think that google is getting serious about Orkut, and by now they are also fed up with DONUTS, so I think it would me much of a server overhaul and it took them some 18+ hours to do so. And on optimistic note they would have done some major arrangement for 1 Jan celebrations, by providing us a video+audio integration, and unlimited image posting. They already have server power and necessary services in place, what they miss is a bridge, which can join them all. Lets hope we have more skit options, to think beyond that awkward blue.

Update...
This morning there was an official statement from Orkut and here is what it says. So no... surprises...But life would still move on.

Too many profiles on too many networks? It certainly takes lot of time to go on individual network and then messaging them. Searching for old friends on many networks is also one hell of a task. So here it is an aggregator, which aggregate your networks from many networks, mainly MySpace and Facebook, biggest 2 of the social networks. But they have listed nearly every social network, barring few like Multiply, Vox and probably it can not include Orkut and Flash based networks due to their structure. But still it covers most of them. And over this it in itself is as good as a social network. It also allows searching in the networks. They are also giving you an option to suggest them the name of unlisted social networks, as even God can not track the budding of new social networks. They are also providing a widget kind of thing which they are calling as portable profiles, through which you can link all of your selected networks as widget to put on any of the network or blogs which is also one nice innovative idea.

So far so good. But it is not the simplest of all, and there await lot of problems for them if any of the social network closes their doors for them. Because any of the big brother can feel that it is not good and bang you are not having the access to that network through Profile Linker. But they would have certainly thought of this and would have made necessary arrangements.

But I have one question, I agree that many of us have many accounts, but how many of us actively use many accounts. I dont... And if you do then you must go and check Profile Linker, to ease your troubles to certain extent.

On other front I still yearn for more simpler interface, with less graphics and more substance, an ideal for such aggregation would be the interface of google reader, simplest to the hint of super-super ease. But still Profile Linker is a nice idea in itself and presently they are clean from any of the advertisements which stop me to go to many of the social networks.

DecThursday,

Where can you find top ten list for any genre, I googled and I found none. I am a firm believer in the power of social networking. Just these two things lead to Listed 10*, its not a blog in true sense, neither it is a website, nor it is a social networking site. Its a highly social form of blog, we are basically trying to keep it uber simple. SO that the content can take the main seat and not the everything else than content.

We are presently using blogger blogging platform to our benefit, and will continue to do so, till we really get a large following. Till then it would be a manual process and nearly every thing will pass through a human check.

Okkkay... that was some clarification... now what is i all about...

Pretty simple... it all about listings, you have a list and you publish it on our blog, by sending it to us as a mail to 10listed@gmail.com

We will publish it as soon as possible, and and will send you your link, which will enable you to circulate among your friends, so that they can start commenting on your list. We certainly believe that every list have potential to bring up some intelligent conversation in their own respect.

So just think of a subject, think of a list and then mail it to us.

Since it is a blog, so you can always cross reference it on your blog or your site, you can always get the RSS feeds, so for us it is blogging at its best.

DecWednesday,

India is a vast country not just because of its geographical size but also due to its diversity. And any technology can become a successful technology in India. As it is being predicted in many quarters of media, that 2007 will be the broadband year for this nation, I am also voicing in same pitch.

I am using BSNL's broadband flat rate plan, and I am enjoying it. Presently they are supplying it with 256 Kbps, which is indeed below international standards, but wohaaa.... they are upgrading to the level which can handle 2Mbps. And certainly it will seep down to us.

But I am one person who wont be happy, because we want more as we believe we can do more, there is always a scope for improvement. America can never match us in numbers and price, and China can never match us in market openness, so I think the future is only bright. And then there are few nations like Israel and South Korea, Japan which are ahead of India on the basis of internet penetration, and this is one place where I think we need to improvise and bring in some better results.

But I will always put this talk in back burner as it can certainly take lot of web space and will become very social/economical.

The point is that urban India is ready to become uber cool and they are ready to hug broadband. Bangalore office of BSNL is keeping thousands of customers on waiting list as they are unable to supply to their needs and similar is the story in many other class one cities. Slowly and slowly it will seep in to the ring of class two cities.

Service providers private and states are ready with technology and we and many more are ready to pick it.

So for 2007 anticipations list you can certainly put this phrase, 2007- Year of Broadband in India.

DecTuesday,

This is another post from my college premises, and let me tell you that AC over her eis working top class. And the computers are uber cool and the one thing to sum it all is that I am enjoying it.
Now let us come back to our central theme, now this idea struck me just now and I am glad that I am first to werite about it. Indian government is having lot of sites, which are there to provide information about XYZ of India. Now that is ther job, but is that all, or to frame it other way cant there be more things which our Governments can do to their websites. And the answer is indeed they can do lot of things and I think they should do it quickly, because it is allways better to be first than being last.
After the arrival of Youtube and the rising of social networking culture, if your site is socialy hip then it will certainly be a big plus point.
Look it this way, count the number of video tutorials over internet after the arrival of Youtube and the brigade of its clone and you will realise that what I mean to say. The fact is that you wont be able to count them, as they just keep on increasing. It is same with the flickr and brigade. Now the photo is not just the end but itsa new starting as lot of meta data is being attached to photos and which certainly make them more usefull. Why can Government can make its informative sites more social, why not let people submit their data at very same place from where they are finding it.
Its not that difficult because it is only taking some 150$ to have youtube clone. And very same ammount for devloping forums and social networks. And if you have them around your central theme what ever it may be, then itcan allways be a plus point. They can always add wikis, they can add forums, they can certainly add lots of other features which can make them more of Web 2.0 class and lesser of the old breed.
Newer is certainly better in this case. Now one must be pretty hopefull to see all the govt. sites bitten byweb2.0 bug.

We all have as per over human nature have some grey shades in us, and most of the time we enjoy it, when it comes out once in a while. And when we see that some one is jepardising our freedom, we feel like tied down and when it comes to internet then it increases many folds. The famous thing which stops us using few of the mosty wonderfull site on net is fire-wall, and typicaly to the students its one thing which we all like to break.
Here I will be telling you how to bypass most of the firewalls, not break them, because breaking allways create more problems then solving.
One ofthe method which most of you would be familiar to is using proxy server, but once they are identified by an intelligent administrator then you have problem at your hands. There is one site ehich none of the administrator worth his blood can block, and that is none other than google.
The two tricks which I found some where in on net and the ones which I am please to share with you all so that you all can enjoy My Spcae, Orkut and many more are....

  1. Use Google Translate or BabelFish to translate the front page from any language to english, and bingo you will be haivng your front page ready.
  2. The other method is also from Google, that is to use cached versions of the website.

Ok try them, as I havent, and do tell me if they are unsuccessfull. And if they are good enough for your use then just use them and enjoy, do not bother to tell it to us as we will be happy to find you enjoying on net.

So after the celebration of lights comes the celebration of joy. This is Christmas people, enjoy this... and try to to make it enjoyable for many others.

DecSunday,

Sanskrit Voice... its a very simple startup without any intentions for profit. First of all I would divulge in the beauty of this site. Its simple, and it knows what it wants, its creator is not making some overstating claims, but just giving some tools to promote the coolest language present on earth. And during promotion you can learn the language by building its vocabulary or you can perceive the other way round. Sanskrit is a semi dead language, but technically most sound language, and phonetically its the best in international lot. Moreover Sanskrit Voice provide educators and teachers a minor platform to educate others about sanskrit.

Another beautiful thing about it is that it is doing so by providing glossary in form of RSS. They should also have a mailing option. It also want others to share resources of sanskrit, making site more of a resource bank.

Promoting is done by providing a RSS widget to put on blog or websites and promotion buttons.

This is pretty fine... and pretty good but...

I would like to see few more things on the website.

  1. A wiki, only for sanskrit
  2. An audio and video section.
  3. A chat room.
  4. A whiteboard.

None of the above things need hevay coding and most of the mcan be placed using other services, but they should be there. Seshu Karthick the man behind this startup can possibly do it himself, an wont prefer using third party widgets. This will make the site more dynamic, which in present status is not. This can be of three reasons, 1- He want it to be like it, 2-He didn't thought about it, 3-He didt had time to do it. Whatever it may be, but he should be sincerely behind this project.

Bye the way I am behind this beautiful language, what about you.

DecFriday,

New and better wireless technology is arriving day by day, ok not day by day but yes year by year. New and latest developments are taking place. Currently we are playing with 2-3 Mbps, but surely we will youch 5-6Mbps in near future.
But its not all about keeping computers wifi but it is about communicating, communicating with your friends, with your peers and many more.Wires are doing there job but droping out wires from the scene have allways been helpful. Though there are many options preent for wireless communication in present sceneario, but most of them are royalty based. Whether it be GSM or CDMA, and when it comes to Wifi, it is not that powerful yet.
What I see is a perfect opotunity for opensource communication. I will put my plan in near future... My computer is still down, and it might be down till christmas. And after christmas... it will be party time. So ther will be quite less bloggin in near future.

DecSunday,

If someone comes up to me and ask me, that what will be the future of media, I will hae only one word... convergence.
Now look at this hypothetical situation...
Nikhil Naz, spots reporter of NDTV, is reporting about the latest cricket mathc in South-Africa and you are directly asking him about the condition of pitch, and he will reply your question adn as his answer is coming to you, you are sending his reply to your friends as a mail attachment, or saving it as a vedio, or publishing it on you blog.
Things are without any border if it comes to convergence.
We are presently having VoIP, and IPTV, you can go for cheers n the day when IPTV becomes social. And yes that is the future of media... every thing on one device... hey but i want bigger keyboards as my fingers are big enough to nake portable keypad a tough affair for me to manage.
Every thing via fast internet is a sure future which I am forseeing.
What are YOU seeing....

I am a firm believer of connectivity, better the connectivity, better and faster will be the development. Development is directly proportional to information receieved. One should make information recieveing as seamless as possible. And special in country like India where more than 50% of population is undereducated, over there more and more information will only proove helpful. And when it comes to information then internet is one of the key resource. But in a country like India where having a computer is not a prime requirement for more than 80% of population over there if I talk of internet as key necessity for information, then I would be just dreaming too high or I am out of my mind. Or... I am not?
I think I am not... we have seen it with telephony and we can repeat it with Wifi. Mobile-phones, in India are reaching to the doors of villages and so can internet. For that we have to make it wireless. Usability can allways be increased, semantic barriers can allways be removed by more and more usage of graphical symbols in internet. Cost of computers can allways be reduced as we already have sub 100$ computers.
One node per village and free wifi connecetion to every person. Yes we surely need to chalk down any plan while keeping every factor in mine but still I feel that internet and that too wireless is key solution to information crunch.

DecSunday,

After you read my entry read this.
Now what I have done is one big mistake, provided a link to a much bigger blogger in comparison to me, very much before I started on my point. And if you are still here then ' THANK YOU'.
Here is one important lesson I learned from this whole case. Ok there are two lessons.

1. Allow others a DRM free, creative common right to criticize your blog and your style. Because in every criticism there is a hidden love.
2.Make some well known blogger your friend.

I know only few of my friends visit this blog, but so what...I believe in my Karma... and will continue doing it, and won't attach myself from end result.( But I am still trying to do so).

As I always say that,' Little bit of vanity is always fair'. As I am in tech blogging, I will always prefer, and stick to to latest web technology, but sometimes you will also hear(read) echo from other part of my brain. And what you just read was part of such an echo.

As I have written that only few of my friends visit this blog, and very few from common public. But I know that one person will keep visiting this blog... KRITI TRIVEDI. My Sister, she came in blogging after me, I did it last year with a cynical blog on my name, and she this very year and she attracts more comments than me. WHY any guesses?
DIDI thanks for visting my blog... and keep on doing so... but comment here and not on phone.
While she send his comments using her mouth on phone, you can check her blog.

DecWednesday,

Spresent, its another flash presentation made easy, website. I previously covered Toufee, which runs on the same line. But first discuss about Spresent. It looks cool and they have tutorial videos on Youtube, which certainly is a good move to reach much bigger audience. Its functionality is nice and the processing is fast. Which certainly a plus point to its competitor. There drag and drop interface is also up to the mark, and is just like spoon feeding to make presentations. The other things which you would notice at once are the options which its interface provide for a single item, which allows lot of flexibility. The other thing which clearly make Spresent a nice tool is the scaling capacity of the vector graphics and vector graphic animation.

Here is the link to its youtube tutorials. Hey the video is not very clear but still if you want to understand than it would be helpful, and yes you can clearly feel an accent.

Now comes the problem set for Spresnt. Its is not very social as it only provides mailing capacity. And I don't think that mailing is the best option, because we often skip mails from friends having something as attachment unless and until its important. Then the other thing is that it is very much limited to presentations only, whereas it have potential to do much more, because there interface is real chick. And one more thing, they should do away with google colours, there login space looks very much similar to the google's login space.
One can certainly try it out, but the real question which now arise, is Powerpoint that bad? Here is one piece of news, MS is going to attack Flash which was till now a sole player in its class, with their new product which will be out of beta in first quarter of coming year.

DecSunday,

Its not that geek but necessary enough to place it on this blog.

Today I am happy, very happy that I have materialized one of my old dream, a truly social site against HIV, that too free of cost. I thought about it in summer last year, then now nearly after year and half, when I am deep in social blogging, after materializing few of my other projects suddenly this old idea of mine struck me once again on another World AIDS Day. I dont know weather this idea of mine is unique or not, it doesn't matter, the thing which matter is that we will need lot of people, that to youth to mobilize whole world against AIDS.
So make your presence felt at Youth Against AIDS

DecSaturday,

Here is a confession, that I am a Google Reader Addict.
J, K, S and shift+S are enough to keep me alive for hours. I remain hooked to it if I am not on my table doing my college work. My friends ask me what do I do on computer all day. I say them its Reader which keeps me busy, they don't believe it, and I just smile.
Whenever I open Firefox, I will open Google reader, sign in, then would open another tab to write orkut.com. Then I keep on switching between the two.
Things just don't end there, I read the feeds and then mark them as favorite or share them or both. TO read what I read, go here.
It would be a nice fact, to know that how many feed blogs are out there, being read actively.
I can suggest only one thing, you should give Reader a try, because if you surf, read blogs, then you are truly missing something if you are not using Reader. And once you start using Reader then your english will start from J.

What can be todays million dollar question...
Can he do it again?
Who? That can be your question, and the name I will give will be Alex Tew.
Again many of you would ask me, Alex Tew?, Is he the one who do the Dew.
My answer would be no, then I will say, The Million Dollar Homepage, now some of your mental chords would be vibrating and you will be remembering about a site which sold each of its million pixels for one dollar.
I got the news from Tech Crunch, that Alex is planning to launch another site by name Pixeletto, and add some kind of lottery to it. This time around he is planning to ask for 2 $ for each pixel. Now the million dollar question or to say 2 million dollar question is would he be successful second time.
Before I express my thought, I would like to share one quote which my dad often give to me,
"There is no dearth of fools in this world, search for one and you would find hundred, but what these all fools need is a person who can make them fool". But he also tell me that, " If you want to remain on top for longer time then you must be sure that, the path you followed to reach at top was clean or not". The first quote is pretty apt for this case, which means that Alex would be successful even this time. Because there are plenty of people who want to own a piece of history.
Idea in itself is superfine and will remain so, but is it effective, yes its effective because it create a hype around itself which helps it to move swiftly.
But this time around Alex will get 2 million$ bit late then he would like, just because hype wont be that high.
Hey bye the way, I don't need much money and Rs. 1 Million would be enough for immediate needs.

Yes the Panda, I named it Kaju(cashew nut).
You can get one from bunnyhero labs, for your Myspcae, Xanga etc. profiles or blogs. Its some simple flash and yet funny. I would like it to do some things on its own, presently one have to hover ones mouse in the white box, to make it do things( do it yourself). And yes audio capabilities will also do wonders.

Saying goes, " Any publicity is good publicity", I think this will be very much so for Orkut, a google social networking site in India. Orkut was in news in India for its hate India communities, and this time around its in news for its Fan clubs. If it would have been a fan club for a some film star or some sports person then it would have gone down well with public and watchdogs. But when the fan club is for Dawood, a don and a international terrorist, then one can be sure that watchdogs are watching you.
This will go on and now with more speed, because google is open now and hugely popular in Indian sub continent, and Dawood is an international don from same region, and one more reason for that is that orkut is now open for public registrations and is not a invite only service. And in a country like India where cyber laws are not clearly defined, there such things can not be curbed easily. Moreover Orkut or Google does not tell about their policy about removal of any profile if reported as an abuse.
But if you are an Orkut user then you have reason to be happy, because soon you will be able to find more friends because Orkut is garnering some hefty publicity, in Indian press.
