What Adobe has to say about ADE, which is is in beta.

Adobe Digital Editions is a completely new way to read and manage eBooks and other digital publications. Digital Editions is built from the ground up as a lightweight, rich Internet application (RIA). Digital Editions works online and offline, and supports both PDF and XHTML-based content.

If anybody shall ask me a question that why is PDF so popular? Then my reply wont be 'security' but my one word answer would be 'integration', its so well integrated with browsers that you even dont feel it as some external programme. Where as Microsoft reader which i feel is more user friendly(at least for reading purpose) is not supported over internet. I even feel that same document when coverted over PDF is more bulky as compared to that converted for reader.
I think any competetior if launches an opensource variable of PDF wil be more successful than PDF itself. Lets see what happens next, but for now ADE is on my compuer and acting nicely. Its much like a competetior for MS Reader. Adobe tried something very similar long back with portable PDF reader, for mobile devices.

Its having nice looking black interface, but I wouldadvice you to wait fo few months andthen look for it to download but if you want to download it now the go here.
